nourish

The word nourish makes me think of my friend Nishaan.

As it happens, I spent a lovely Friday morning with Nishaan during Advent that served as the warm beginning of this season for me.

My struggle with food and my body is well-documented and I often feel I’m so disconnected from the physical, at a complete loss as to what to do about food or how to make a difference in the way I feel and look.

But I’ve noticed that whenever I’m with Nishaan, when I stand in her kitchen and she prepares a drink or a snack or a meal for me, I feel in harmony with food and my body.

I feel nourished.

In her presence, I remember how it is that food can be grace.

I’m thankful for her friendship for many reasons; I’m thankful for our morning tea time, too.
